Milo means jolly good health: that slogan is a good one! South Africa’s Favourite Milo Biscuits create a more healthy option than others while providing a yummy biscuit. The chocolate and malt flavour of Milo comes through clearly in these biscuits. Making them will ensure a good conversation/demonstration topic.
Makes 36 – 38 small biscuits
Appliances used – Oven and electric food mixer
Ingredients
- 125 g butter (125 ml)
- 100 g granulated white sugar (125 ml)
- 70 g soft brown sugar (125 ml)
- 1 large egg
- 2 ml of vanilla essence
- 50 g Milo powder (125 ml)
- Pinch of salt
- 5 ml baking powder
- 160 g wheat cake flour (310 ml)
- 100 g milk chocolate, chopped into chunks or 125 ml chocolate chips
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180ºC/160ºC fan/Gas mark 4.
2. Line a baking tray with baking paper. No need to grease.
3. In the bowl of an electric food mixer and using the beater attachment of an electric food mixer,
cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
4. Add egg and vanilla essence and beat well.
5. Add in Milo and mix well to incorporate.
6. Sift salt, baking powder, and cake flour, and add to the mixture.
7. Stir in chocolate or chocolate chips, and combine well.
8. Allow the biscuit dough to chill in the refrigerator for 10 – 20 minutes.
9. Drop small teaspoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking tray. Do not place biscuits too close
together, to allow room for expanding whilst baking.
10. Bake for 12 – 15 minutes. Cool on the baking tray for 15 minutes before removing them.
11. Use a spatula to loosen biscuits from the baking tray.
12. Continue to cool completely on a wire rack so that biscuits become crisp.
13. Store in a sealed container.
