These Black Sesame Seed Duck Bao Buns are perfect for a delicious lunch on the go. Serve them with a homemade red onion and cucumber pickle for a delectable dinner. The soft buns are a perfect contrast to the saucy duck and red onions.
Ingredients for the Black Sesame Seed Duck Bao Buns
- 500g Duck breasts
- 2 tsp coarse sea salt
- 4 tbsp honey
- 2 tsp black sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 4 fresh Bao buns (These can be purchased from a local Chinese shop)
Method
Heat oven to 160C/fan 140C/gas 3. Score the duck breast skin with a sharp knife. Then season the duck with the sea salt and pepper, then roast for 1½ hrs. Remove the duck from the oven and pour off the excess fat collected in the tray.
Return the duck to the roasting tray, then spoon 3 tbsp of the honey and soy over to cover the breasts. Roast the duck for a further 1 hour, basting with the honey and soy every 10-15 mins. Sprinkle the sesame seeds on top during the final 10 mins of roasting.
Once cooked, remove duck from the roasting tray, and allow it to rest for 10-15 mins. Spoon the remaining tbsp of honey and soy over the duck as it rests.
Slice the duck and add to the Bao buns with the picked vegetables.
