Cooking up a healthy storm at Hirsch’s Ballito with the Philips Airfryer recently, was a team of students from Ashton International College. Kitted out in their Heritage Month gear, the teams consisting of the Springbok Sisters (Ella Backeberg and Isabella Moodley) the Igazi Brothers (Nicolas Kopman and Kayson Holthauze) and Back to the Kazi (Owethu Ngcobo and Rokhy Thiam) battled it out to see who would win the coveted prize of a pair of Phillips air-fryers.
Judges, Aretha Aleka, Glenda Thompson and Sebastian Moonsamy said that they were blown away by the creative ideas that were put together by the teams. However, it was the delicious chicken kebabs, corn on the cob and hand-cut chips and peppermint crisp cheesecake prepared by the Springbok Sisters that won the day! They were followed by the Igazi Brothers with their traditional Babotie and buttermilk pudding and in a very close third was the Back to the Kazi team with an old-school Kota and Malva pudding.
“This was such a fantastic way for students to be introduced to exciting new products, like the AirFryer, and we commend Hirsch’s and Philips for the initiative!” Commented Ashton International College Home Economics teacher – who helped coordinate the event – Vanessa Andreou.
