Keep Your Gas Braai in Top Shape

Now that the braaiing season is almost over – it’s never really over in some households, but for many of us, we put the braai away until summer comes again. However, it’s essential to ensure your gas braai is clean and in pristine condition before it goes into hibernation.

Here are some hints and tips to clean and/or replace a burner on your gas braai. It’s a vital skill for anyone who enjoys braaiing on a gas braai – for me, it changed my life as I didn’t have to wait hours for the braai to be the right temperature – you just switch on and braai!

Cleaning Your Gas Braai
Switch Off the Gas: Always remember to switch off the gas before you start cleaning your braai. Safety first!

Disassemble and Soak: Remove the grates, flame tamers, and burners. Soak these parts in warm soapy water to loosen the grease and grime.

Scrub the Grates: Use a grill brush or a scouring pad to scrub the grates clean. Rinse thoroughly and dry.

Clean the Burners: Inspect the burners for any blockages. Use a wire brush or a thin metal rod to clean out any clogged ports. Regular cleaning can prevent grease buildup, which affects burner performance.

Wipe Down the Interior: Clean the inside of the braai with warm soapy water and a sponge. Be sure to remove any ash or debris.

Clean the Exterior: Don’t forget the outside! Wipe down the exterior of your braai with a non-abrasive cleaner to keep it looking new.

Replacing a Burner
If your burner doesn’t produce a consistent flame, it’s time to replace it. Over time, grease buildup can affect burner performance, and regular cleaning might not be enough.
