Forty-seven years ago, electronics repairman Allan Hirsch and his wife, Margaret, opened their electronic repair shop or “repair hospital”, Hirsch’s, in Durban North.
Forty-seven years later, HIRSCH’S has grown into a leading appliance and electronics retail outlet in South Africa, with 22 Hirsch stores and concept stores around the country.
Allan says the company has managed to keep up with the fast-paced, ever-changing world of the appliance and electronics industry, and in many cases, they have become market leaders. He is well aware that this would not have happened without the loyal support of suppliers and staff, and above all, their happy, returning customers.
“Over the last 47 years, so much has happened in our industry, with brands going out and new ones coming in. It’s exciting to see the many changes and improvements in products that have occurred over the years. We are proud of the growth that has taken place and are truly grateful to everyone who has contributed to our success,” says Hirsch.
Over the last 47 years, Hirsch’s has had the joy of serving young married couples and helping them set up their first homes with everything from air conditioning units to the tiniest kitchen gadgets. With their in-store service and spares department, they have helped customers resolve issues that sometimes arise with appliances, replacing parts and sending out technicians when necessary to solve problems.
In 2002, the company brought the Hirsch’s Homestore concept to Gauteng, and in 2012 they opened their first branch in Cape Town. Today, they own 22 branches, Samsung Concept stores in KZN and Gauteng, and Samsung and Hisense concept stores in the Cape.
