Hirsch’s Homestore ups their game on going green

In the pursuit of knowledge and practices that can lead to more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible decisions and lifestyles, Hirsch’s Homestore with the launch of their new flagship store in Hyde Park have recently partnered with Green Key Enviro part of the Green Key Environmental Group of Companies on a journey to ensure that their new store is 100% waste free!

The Green Key Enviro company’s vision is to eradicate landfills completely and to partner with businesses who support this venture. Donovan Van der Walt, founder and CEO of Green Key Enviro said, “The GKE team are thrilled with the partnership with Hirsch’s. We are always excited to work with companies and individuals who share the same values as ours. Waste in our country has become a major challenge and we have to come up with new and innovative ways of coping with the huge volumes generated. Once our waste to energy and ZERO general waste to landfill projects are fully commissioned and operational towards the end of 2018, I will be proud to announce Hirsch’s title of ZERO general waste to landfill.”

Allan Hirsch CEO of Hirsch’s Homestore commented, “Going green or maybe I should say ‘Going blue’ is very much a part of the ethos at Hirsch’s. We are not only reducing our energy consumption by introducing more solar energy to our stores but also looking at ways of minimising waste that ends up at landfills. When planning the launch of our new Hyde Park store one of our main priorities was to minimise waste and thankfully our team who were involved in the project were so fantastic and together with the solutions implemented by Green Key Enviro we were able to recycle 100% of all general waste produced. I am very pleased with the overall outcome and continual progress of the recycle programme at Hirsch’s Hyde Park and I am even more pleased with our plans to roll out this programme to the rest of the Hirsch’s stores very soon.”
