There is nothing like an aircon to keep kids cool – and assist with their concentration! With this in mind, Fourways air conditioners in partnership with Hirsch’s donated and installed some brand new air conditioners to Clare Ellis Brown Primary in the Greater Durban area – a school that Hirsch’s has been involved with for the last fifteen years.
The school, which has been in operation since 1955 and caters to over 130 children between the ages of two and six years old, who come from lower-income families in the CBD, was on the verge of closing down in the early 2000s. Hirsch’s stepped in when Sandra McLaren, one of the teachers at the time, approached them for help. Commented Richard “After visiting the school all those years ago and seeing those wonderful, happy cheerful little faces, despite their circumstance in this fairly grim and crime-ridden part of town, we knew it was our duty and responsibility to help in any way we could.” Since then Richard has attended meetings with Nora Saneka, the Head Teacher and her team on a regular basis to see how the company can help the school.
There are many success stories that come from ex-pupils at the school – including one of the past pupils becoming a director at Dunlop. With the loving-kindness from the teachers and with help and love and guidance from the team from Hirsch’s, no doubt there will be many more!
